SHEQCOM – Safety Health, Environmental & Quality Contractor Management

Back to Home

The purpose of this training guide is to:

Contractors are legally required to:

  1. prepare and review at least annually a written occupational health and safety policy;
  2. develop and maintain a program to implement that policy; and
  3. have the program audited monthly to ensure on-going compliance and applicability.

This guide is designed to help you meet this legal requirement. It provides guidelines that will help you to define policy objectives and develop the program activities needed to meet such objectives. It can also be used by your managers, your joint health and safety committees or representatives, and others who should be involved in this process.

However, it is stressed that these are guidelines only. The development of an effective policy and program must be done by each company in a way that reflects its character and particular circumstances. A policy that is reflected in your day-to-day operations will result in high standards of workplace health and safety.
