The purpose of this training guide is to:

The competency includes knowledge and understanding of the requirements applicable to:

  • Discussing fundamental issues pertaining to occupational safety, health and environment.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of Safety Theories and Principles.
  • Applying the fundamentals of Risk Management.

Applying safety, health and environment management systems

The following aspects will be addressed in this course:

  • Module 1 – Incident and Accident Causation Theories
  • Module 2 – Theories of Management and Management Systems
  • Module 3 – The creation and promulgation of legislation
  • Module 4 – Legislative Compliance
  • Module 5 – SHE System Policies and Procedures
  • Module 6 – South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the National Qualifications Framework (NQF)
  • Module 7 – Workplace Safety Practices
  • Module 8 – Environmental Management
  • Module 9 – Workplace ergonomics
  • Module 10 – Introduction to Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Health

Who should attend:

  • Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors
  • Managers assigned in terms of section 16 (2), as well as persons appointed to assist them
  • Competent Persons and their Assistants as per General Machinery Regulation 2
  • Appointed Person as per Construction Regulations 8(5)
  • SHE Managers, Practitioners and Officers
  • Supervisors and Foremen
  • Correctly identified employees
